Schools Training Sessions

Following on from the positive feedback from the two twilight schools training sessions on An Introduction to Developmental Trauma, we are now developing a training course to schools over three modules that can be attended separately or as a whole.

All training sessions will take place at the school between 4pm and 6pm on dates across the year

Draft Programme

Module One (2hrs)

An introduction ACE's and Developmental Trauma in educational settings.

In this module we explain the concept of Adverse Childhood Experiences and relate this to trauma. We will consider the importance of a developmental perspective and how the child’s experience shapes their neurological development. Finally, we will use case study examples to understand the behaviour that follows ACE's and introduce some appropriate responses.

This module is suitable for all those who work in educational settings.

Module Two (2 hrs)

Adverse Childhood Experiences; impact, resilience and response.

In this module we will consider the impact of ACE's on children’s development and some of the factors that contribute to better outcomes. We will then introduce the principles that underpin strategies that are known to be effective in supporting children who have experienced trauma.

This module is suitable for all those who work in educational settings.

Module Three (a) (2 hrs)

Working with traumatised children in primary and secondary education.

This module focuses on practice. We will consider strategies to prevent children’s adverse experiences acting as a barrier to learning and ways to respond when necessary. The module also considers how staff can maintain their own well-being when working with traumatised children.

This module is suitable for Class Teachers, Teaching Assistants, ELSA and others who work directly with children in educational settings

Module Three (b) (2 hrs)

Working with traumatised children as a school leader.

Children who have experienced adversity do not always respond to our usual school practice. In this module we will consider whole school level responses to children who have experienced trauma. This will include consideration of policy, working with parents, working with other organisations and staffing matters.

This module is suitable for school leaders such as Headteachers, SENDCos, Deputy and Assistant Heads.
