Developmental Trauma Training at Beech Lodge

On Thursday 15th March we held our first ever Understanding Developmental Trauma Schools Workshop which was an opportunity for over 50 teachers and educationalists to come and learn more about the impact of Developmental Trauma on Social & Emotional functioning and how best to work with children who have had adverse childhood experiences.

The session kicked off with a presentation by Helen Costa CEO of The Cornerstone Partnership who introduced some ground-breaking Virtual Reality technology showing how early life trauma affects children and manifests in later life behaviours.  Educational Psychologist and co-author of Fagus Alastair Lidster gave a very clear and informative presentation on how understanding a child’s development can help shape interventions in the classroom. Our magnificent Head Lucy Barnes gave comprehensive and specific examples of how one can work with these children at school, and finally Alastair and Lucy gave a short overview of the Fagus Educational Resource and how it can be used in the school setting.

Feedback was extremely positive so we will be holding more of these twilight Emotional & Social Schools Workshops in future so watch this space!
